Pattern Notes
Amigurumi are crocheted in spirals which means that you do not join rounds or chain to increase height. Use a stitch marker to help you keep track of the end of the round. In order for the pieces to hold their shape, use a fairly stiff yarn and crochet tightly. Stuff the pieces until they are firm but do not over stuff them as it will distort the shape.
Holly Berries (Red)
Yarn knots are used to create the berries for the holly leaves. Yarn knots are made by making a regular knot, but wrapping the yarn multiple times before pulling tight. Make 2 red yarn knots with three wraps.
Ball (White)
Round 1: sc 6 in a magic ring
Round 2: * 2 sc in next st * 6 times (12 sts)
Round 3: * sc 1, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (18 sts)
Round 4: * sc 2, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (24 sts)
Round 5: * sc 3, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (30 sts)
Round 6-8: sc 30
Round 9: *sc 3, dec* 6 times (24 sts)
Make mouth using black embroider floss over row 6. Add eyes between rows 7 and 8, 5 stitches apart. Partially stuff the head.
Round 10: *sc 2, dec* 6 times (18 sts)
Round 11: *sc 1, dec* 6 times (12 sts)
Round 12: dec 6 times (6 sts)
Finish stuffing with fiberfill. More is better. Fasten off and cut yarn leaving a long tail. Weave tail through the last six stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in tail.
Leaf (Green) x 2
Chain 2
In 2nd ch from hook: sl st, sc, ch, sc, sl st.
Cut yarn and pull through leaving a tail to sew on the leaves
Top Hat (Black)
In round 4 you will stitch in the back loops only to cause it to fold down to form the side of the hat. In Round 10 you will stitch in the front loops only to cause it to fold out to form the brim of the hat.
Round 1: sc 6 in a magic ring Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
Round 3: *2 sc, sc* 6 times (18 sts)
Round 4:sc in BLO in each st around (18 sts)
Rounds 5-9: In both loops,, sc in each st around (18 sts)
Round 10: In FLO, *2 sc, sc in next 2 sts* 6 times (24 sts)
Round 11: Going under both loops, *2 sc, sc in next 3 sts* 6 times (30 sts)
Sl st 3 times to create a smooth edge. Cut yarn and pull tail through last st leave a long tail for sewing the hat on. Weave it through the brim to the edge where you crocheted in FLO.
Using red yarn, back stitch around the hat to make a red band. Sew leaves to hat off center and slightly over lapping by pulling both tails through just above where the brim of the hat starts. and knotting them together twice then trimming the tails. Add berries in the same way at the base of the leaves.
Loop for Hanging (Green)
Ch 15
sl st in 14th st from hook
sl st in last stitch.
Break yarn and pull through.
Attach to top center of hat.
Assembly
Partially stuff the top hat but do not over stuff it or the shape will be distorted. Sew hat to ball using same colored yarn. Add more stuffing to the hat if needed before closing the seam.
